Milano

Milan (Italian: Milano) is the second-largest city in Italy and the capital of the region of Lombardy.

The city proper has an urban area, and a metropolitan area called Blue Banana.

The city is one of Europe’s main transportation and industrial hubs, 10th most important centre for business and finance and it is recognised as a world fashion and design capital.

The place is famous for its ancient remains and architecture (churches, basilicas and city gates: Sant’Ambrogio, San Nazaro in Brolo, San Simpliciano, Basilica Sant’Eustorgio, Milan Cathedral – Duomo – the fourth largest cathedral in the world, Castello Sforzesco, Portinari Chapel, Ospedale Maggiore), number of art galleries, Biblioteca Ambrosiana, Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, opera house La Scala. There is always a great number of places to rest and relax in one of Milan parks and garden and nevertheless even more museums or streets to explore Corso Venezia, English gardens, Parco Agricolo Sud Milano, Trenno Park, Lambro Park, Natural History Museum of Milan, Milan University Experimental Botanical Garden, Brera Botanical Garden, Cascina Rosa Botanical Garden, Garden of the Righteous.

Milan is also regarded as one of the fashion capitals of the world, along with New York City, Paris, and London and most of the major Italian fashion brands, such as Valentino, Gucci, Versace, Prada, Armani and Dolce & Gabbana, with their headquarters in the city. The city hosts the Milan Fashion Week twice a year, on the city’s most prestigious shopping avenues and squares Via Monte Napoleone, Via della Spiga, Via Sant’Andrea, Via Manzoni, Corso Venezia, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Piazza del Duomo, Via Dante, Corso Buenos Aires.

The distance from Ljubljana to Milan centre  is around 500 km the journey takes around 5 hours.
